Do you like to indulge in self-pampering or hang out with your girlfriends during the weekends, doing all things pretty? Well, now you can take it to the next level and do these online by writing about it.
In this week’s tutorial, I’ll show you how to become a beauty blogger in 5 days and beyond. So, let’s get started with what you have.
Day 1 – Narrow Down Your Niche
There’s always something – from head to toe – to talk about when it comes to beauty topics. But are you going to write about everything? I am guessing not. In fact, I would recommend that you pick one that you really like and focus on that.
For example, a big topic like makeup can produce different categories like products, techniques, and styles and within each, there are smaller topics to write about. In other words, your choice of niche should allow you to break things down but still keep them relevant.
A good method to do this is to provide solutions to existing problems or concerns. For example, if your interest is in the hair niche, you might want to help readers with hair loss problems or with hair extension techniques.
When you narrow down a niche, you can attract a specific audience that is interested in reading your content rather than having random visitors who are just browsing through things. This will give your blog a solid foundation before we move on to the next step.
Day 2 – Integrate Domain, Hosting and Website
A domain name is what you would call your blog (or a website) and choosing one very much depends on what your niche is all about. There are a few ways to create a blog name, but they are generally divided into two types; keyword-rich and brandable domains.
A keyword-rich domain is usually longer and has intentional meaning like howcanilookpretty.com. If you prefer something brandable, you can call it mybeautypouch.com instead. For example, mybeautypouch.com is currently available at the SiteRubix platform for $13.99/year.
Once you purchase that domain, you can move onto creating a WordPress website using the same platform.
Day 3 – Set Up Theme and Main Pages
Here is where the fun part begins. Within WordPress, you can customize a blog by choosing the type of theme that you like. Simply head over to Appearance > Theme and type in a keyword related to your niche in the search column.
For example, I searched for “makeup” and here are some of the results from over 128 themes belonging to this keyword. To download, you just have to click the install button.
After installation, the next step is to create a few main pages that will serve as your blog’s main content area. My suggestions are;
- Beauty Techniques
- Beauty Styles
- Beauty Products
- An About Me Page
If you don’t know what to write for these pages just yet, don’t worry. You can save as drafts and come back later to add the content. However, it’s important that you write something about yourself – who you are and what makes you create this blog – because people will want to know this detail when they visit your site.
And oh, adding a nice picture of yourself would make it more personal too. Selfie works just fine! 🙂
Day 4 – Write Your First Blog
Here’s where a lot of people shudder. Writing a blog isn’t like an assignment. Guided by a topic idea, you just need to write what’s in your mind. How do you come up with ideas? Well, what kind of problems do people in your niche face? Offer the solution in the form of an article.
An effective way of looking for ideas is through keyword research. With Jaaxy Keyword Tool, all you need to do is type in a “query” related to the niche and see what comes up. In a make up niche, for example, I am guessing that some people might want to learn “how to use foundation powder”.
Wow! According to Jaaxy, this term has an average of 196 searches per month, but only 6 websites are ranking for the exact keywords. If you can write a good quality blog showing people how to use foundation powder the right way, you can get a lot of traffic to your site. And, don’t forget to include pictures as well; this will help readers understand your content better.
Day 5 – Publish and Share
Once you have finished the article, just hit publish and share it with your social networks. Ask your friends to give feedback on what they think about your first blog post. You can learn a lot from their comments.
Another thing that you should also do is to reach out to other beauty bloggers and get them to leave comments on your blog. Good quality comments add values to a blog and you should do the same for others too.
A good place to start is Google Plus. Check out all these makeup communities that you can join for free.
At Pinterest, by searching for “makeup” alone – you get all these subtopics like tips, tutorials, and collection, etc. Just like how you create categories on your blog earlier.
Lots of sharing leads to lots of content ideas and that’s what you want to be doing every time you create a blog post.
Day 6 and Beyond
These are just some of the basic steps on how you can become a beauty blogger. If you are really into this niche, you can create video tutorials on YouTube, get involved with affiliate programs or even set up a consulting service to diversify your online income. As long as you keep driving the right traffic to your blog, the opportunity is endless.

I like the way you explained all the basic steps to starting a blog/website, Cathy.
Some years ago, I was a consultant with Beauty Control. I loved their products, and was actually quite good at it. But, I hurt my back and ended up with a ruptured disc and could no longer schlep all the products around to parties, so I had to stop. They really are an MLM company and, if I really wanted to earn a good income, I needed to constantly be looking to add new consultants to my group.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us, Debby.
Unfortunately in the world of MLM, you really got to hustle a lot before you can reach that level of passive income. A lot of social engagement and recruitment are required and although I know that’s important for networking, it’s very time consuming with minimal reward. Clearly, that seems to be the situation in your case.
You are far better off starting your own online business at Wealthy Affiliate where they teach you how to create a sustainable income without all the hypes.
I hope you are doing better now with your physical condition and if you need any help, just drop me a comment ya!

This is one of the top “how to write a blog” articles I’ve ever read. You made everything seem not too intense to take on, all in a very easy and concise manner.
In short, I think that it should be emphasized that Wealthy Affiliate can help one accomplish this all in one place. As a WA member, I’ve experienced that and seen how this is so true.
Great post!
Cathy says
Thanks for pointing that out, Ariel.
A lot of times, a blogger’s platform is divided into several pieces – the domain, the website and the blogging community are all separated. That’s not entirely a bad thing, but if you have the option to integrate everything in one place, then you have less distraction, more efficiency and less services to pay.
That’s what Wealthy Affiliate’s training aim to provide – an affordable and well-equipped platform for bloggers to concentrate on growing their online business.

Years ago, okay… decades ago, I was a Mary Kay consultant. The internet was around, but I wasn’t on it. In fact, I don’t recall much talk about the internet during those days. Now that I’m much older and am more involved with computers and the internet, it makes me wonder what I could have accomplished with a beauty blog. Great post, Cathy. I think you hit all the major points.
Cathy says
Hi there Renee,
My cousin sister used to be a Mary Kay consultant too. But she left and resumed a normal employment job. I’ve also wondered what kind of career opportunities this company offers. Some say it works like an MLM business model. Is it true? It would be great to hear your experience about it.

Okay, I was not expecting you talk about how to pick a niche and website, but I like what you have done there. The only thing I was wondering after reading this article was what if you aren’t very good with putting make up on, is it still possible to be a beauty blogger when you suck at beauty make-up?
I like the way your page looks too and I actually did manage to learn something that I did not learn on Wealthy Affiliate and that was searching the theme in the search bar by your niche. I wish I had known that before because it would have saved me some time. LOL!!
Cathy says
Hi there Kristena,
When it comes to creating a sustainable blog that can generate revenue, I believe there are two requirements to meet. Either you are very passionate about it OR you are enthusiastic to learn more about the niche. Are you keen to improve on your make-up skills even when you think you are bad in it? That’s something to think about.
If you are not interested in make-up at all, there are always other niches to look into. You can read more about finding an affiliate product in this article.

Hi Cathy!
This is a very newbie-friendly guide on how to become a beauty blogger in five days. I used to have a keyword-rich domain but as time pass by, I realised that it is too long. I decided to stick with a shorter one because I learned that you need to make your domain name easy to remember. 🙂
Cathy says
Hi there Pitin,
You made a good point there. Many times, beginners choose keyword-rich domains because of its potential to get ranked on the search engines. That’s where people tend to overstuffed words, just like you said, making it way too long and mouthful for the users.
I am in the opinion that brandable domains work just fine as I have pointed out in my article on how to come up with online business names. At the end of the day, it’s the content within that matters and will get ranked the most.
