When I was in university many years ago, everyone talked about the latest watch. Now, it’s all about the latest fitness tracker and where to get one. As of today, this wearable technology is still a hot consumer product and if you are looking to make money from it, then this Fitbit affiliate program guide is a must read.
The Program At a Glance
Before you misinterpret, I don’t work for the company, but when I found out about their affiliate program, it’s exciting to know that the company will pay regular people like you and me, for recommending their products. For some people, it’s a good opportunity to make money while losing weight.
Previously, they were partnering with the ShareASale network and then, the program discontinued temporarily. Now, it is back live and this time, they are one of the advertisers on the CJ Affiliate (previously known as Commission Junction). To apply, you simply create an account with the network and you’ll be able to access more details.
Here are some of the highlights of the program;
- More than 80% of the online sales conversion comes from the US, followed by Canada and the UK.
- The company has a network earning score of ⅘, which classify it as one of the top performing advertisers on the network.
- The commission rate is offered at 10%, for 15 days referral period, for all product sales that occur on the official webstore.
- There are plenty of product, logo and banner links that can be used for promotion.
- The program is free to join.
For Fitbit products that are sold at other retailers such as Amazon and Walmart, this program will not apply. If you want to earn commissions from those channels, you’ll need to sign up for the retailer’s affiliate program. And that can be confusing – which one do you choose when it comes to promoting Fitbit?
Well, the good thing about the Amazon Associate program, for example is that, most consumers are already familiar with the platform or they may even have Prime accounts, thus increasing the likelihood of shopping there. These attributes can really speed up online sales. But there are also some downsides to consider such as, short cookie duration (just 24 hours), product competition, warranty security and strict affiliate terms that may hinder your marketing effort.
Most importantly, Amazon only pays 4.5% commission for healthcare products which is a stark difference from what Fitbit is offering directly through their official store. Obviously, each has its pros and cons and must be tested in your marketing campaigns to find out which is the right affiliate program for your audience.
With that in mind, let’s see who are the best individuals to promote this product.
Who Should Join
Anyone who is active in sports, health and fitness or someone seeking for a more balanced lifestyle, are the best people to be discussing about fitness trackers online. Your familiarity with these topics makes it even easier to write relevant articles and product reviews.
To do so, you will need a blog and that’s actually the prerequisite to apply for any affiliate program that focuses on content marketing. In addition, picking up SEO skills is also crucial for driving long term traffic because it will generate recurring income. This is how most people make money from blogging besides publishing ads or selling their own products online.
How to Set Up a Blog
It’s easy. With current technology, you can set up one within minutes. The first step is to purchase a domain name – find a name that’s closely related to the niche that you are targeting – and connect it to a blogging platform. I recommend using self-hosted WordPress because it’s such a versatile platform that accommodates your creativity.
If you haven’t tried out WordPress before, here’s your chance to create one for free. Simply enter a domain below and your blog will go live with just a few simple clicks.
Inside the free blog, you can experiment with different theme designs, find out what plugins can do and even write your first blog post. When you are more decided, you may switch to a custom domain anytime.
Getting Traffic to Your Blog
Content is important when it comes to generating traffic for any sites, but when your blog is only a few days to weeks old, it’s normal to only have a few number of visitors. That’s because the search engines usually take a while to figure out what your site is all about.
One of the best ways to speed up this process is to publish as much textual content as possible based on keywords that are specific to your niche. The choice of keywords should ideally be long-tail (a.k.a descriptive), in-demand and low-competition (meaning that not many websites are targeting that particular phrase). Implementing this type of keywords in your articles will help to get the reader’s engagement, boost rankings and eventually, generate more traffic to your blog.
Therefore, before thinking about earnings, the first thing to work on is to come up with interesting topics about fitness trackers or the Fitbit brand in particular. Write within 1000 words (or more) with the intention of helping consumers decide which product is the right fit for them. When they are ready, the affiliate links should be visible enough for them to click and purchase online, like so in the image below.
Since you are new to blogging, I thought it would be a good idea to give you a hand in finding some targeted keywords that can be used to promote Fitbit. I use Jaaxy for this purpose because it’s a powerful keyword tool to discover targeted keywords that can be ranked for SEO. Here are some examples;

Apart from blogging, making money from YouTube videos has also become quite popular amongst affiliate marketers. It enables viewers to engage with a topic visually versus just reading a plain text. Videos are especially great for how-to guides as well as in-depth product reviews and you can lead viewers back to your blog or place affiliate links (like so in the image below) in the description area to increase sales conversion.
Just like any other industries, there are always competitors and I think it’s healthy to compare and rate Fitbit with other brands in your blog. This is called product comparison review and I think it helps to make a brand more desirable based on the key features and pricing.
So, do consider the following names (or their affiliate programs, if there are any) when you are coming up with topic ideas.
- Apple Watch
- BellaBeat
- Garmin
- LetsCom
- Moov Now
- Misfit
- Nokia Steel
- Samsung
- Xiao Mi
I couldn’t list all, but I am pretty sure you can find more of them with some research.
Fitness Trackers Moving Forward
There’s much to be anticipated from this niche as we evolved as modern humans, seeking for healthier and a more balanced lifestyle. This awareness has lead to more people wanting to track changes and take charge of their bodies. In doing so, product sales are likely to grow for the next few years and I can see Fitbit continues to take the lead in the industry.
If you agree, then you should really look into monetizing from their affiliate program and who knows, create an online business on the side – doing what you love most.

Very informative article, I can see why people would be interested in promoting something like the Fitbit. Health and fitness will never go out of style and now with everyone so attached to their phones and apps, it is even more engaging to see your progress on real-time.

Fitbit is a big company, but over the years, most affiliate programs are sometimes restricted to the US. So my question is, for non-US resident, do they have the opportunity to take part in the Fitbit affiliate program? I am asking this because I live somewhere in Africa and I’d love to promote this product. Will it be possible?
Cathy says
Hi there Olonisakin,
For the Africa market, you may want to look at joining the Jumia affiliate program. They do have a few range of Fitbit products on the marketplace.
Hope this helps.

This sounds like a very inviting affiliate program. If I have the option to choose, I would go through the actual Fitbit program as it looks more professional. I like Amazon and it’s versatility with products, but for tech gadgets, I think there is a better chance of conversions going through the company’s main website. Fitbit is really popular and reputable for fitness trainers, so I expect it will be a very good conversion rate as well.

Another great post! I have recently started to get more into my health and fitness so I have started to notice what fitness trackers people wear. Fitbit definitely look good and seem to do the job. I wasn’t aware that they had an affiliate program so thank you for sharing this as well as the tips on finding good keywords.
Cathy says
You are welcome, Chris! 🙂

Fitness and health is one of the best niches to be in right now as there is a huge market for such product distribution. I really appreciated the bit about being a direct affiliate versus being an affiliate of a retailer. I can see how it would be better to join the Fitbit affiliate program directly as the earning potential would be greater. Although, Amazon’s popularity can also play to one’s advantage so there’s some valid points to consider here.

I’ve read in plenty of places that it is possible to make money while losing weight which is a good motivational tool for helping those who’re interested in starting their own business. Also, you gave me something to think about. My wife may be interested in this type of opportunity so I’m going to pass this info to her. Thanks for the tips, Cathy.
Cathy says
No problem, R.J. Glad I could help 🙂

Nice! I am actually wearing my Fitbit right now and I think going into this niche is a great idea. It is a merger between the health industry and the wearable tech industry, which are two giants in the marketing world. That sets you for tremendous success if you choose to be affiliated with them.
Like you say humans are trending towards health and fitness, so it makes sense that this would be profitable. Fitbit also has a good range of products which work excellently. I often test the heart rate monitor against the machines when I have my blood taken and it’s very accurate.
Chris says
That’s a great affiliate product to get into if you run a health or fitness blog – the Fitbit popularity is crazy at the moment!
I’d say at least 75% of the people I know wear some sort of wrist fitness device – most just want to keep up with their 1000 steps a day routine!
Do you think these fitness bracelets will be a ‘flash in the pan’ or do you feel they will evolve further?
Cathy says
Hi Chris, I think fitness bands are going to stay for a while in the market due to the way they are already synced to the apps on our phones. So, for as long as we are dependent on apps in our daily lives, we’ll certainly be using these bands for a very long time. Whether or not they will evolve into something else, we shall see where technology takes us.
