Before I knew what business blogging was, I was merely glancing through articles that I thought were written specifically by professional writers. About a year ago, I read a lovely post about Necker Island and the author was Richard Branson.
I thought, why would the founder of a successful airline company write a blog when he could be spending his time working on his business instead?
As I found out, blogging is marketing in progress and very beneficial for businesses, big or small.
(1 ) Visualizing Business Value
As anything else online, blogging makes everything more transparent – your business goals, values, and outlook in the industry. It creates awareness for your employees about the business direction and helps them understand how their work can contribute to the progress of the company.
When you strengthen the relationship with your team in such a positive manner, they are more likely to take on proactive roles in growing the business as they feel they could feel their involvement as well.
(2) Establishing Online Branding
Back in the old days of brick-and-mortar business, one has to be physically present in the storefront to know what the business is all about. Nowadays, if you know how a business website works, you can build your business brand through blogging by incorporating written text, images, and even videos.
This interesting way of showcasing products and services is more captivating and certainly gives a more enjoyable purchasing experience for your customers. Besides, an outstanding promotional feature will set you apart from your competition who might only practice the typical sales-pitch style.
(3) Reaching Out to a Wider Audience
Whether you realized it or not, your blog will attract viewers who want to know more about you as a person before they are convinced about your brand. I don’t think Virgin would be as popular as today if Richard Branson hasn’t walked out of his office suite, or donned an air stewardess uniform for charity fundraising.
The fact that general readers can relate to you in terms of humor, lifestyle, and dreams (and not just some fancy CEO title), puts you in a very significant position to educate people about your company and its products.
Knowledge is empowering and satisfied consumers will leave positive reviews about your business on social networks and forums, thus boosting your brands and overall sales.
(4 ) Becoming a Better Thinker
If you think that sticking to the conventional mindset is the only way to drive your business forward, blogging will prove you wrong. A blog is very much like a two-way communication; you write and trigger a conversation.
Comments in the form of positive opinions, suggestions, or even criticism will make you think about the direction of your business and tap into areas that need improvement.
You’ll also find yourself participating in online discussions with experts in a similar field and keeping abreast of the latest news and technology that can add dynamics to your business growth. As a result of that, you’ll be seen as a forward thinker and as a leading model of a successful online entrepreneur.
(5 ) Optimizing for Google
Google is like a huge marketplace where everyone comes to shop for something. To know exactly what they want, you’ll have to find out the specific phrases that are in their minds when they search online.
Conducting proper keyword research helps you to determine that and by structuring your blog content based on keywords, your brand will be able to help answer a buyer’s need, desire, and curiosity.
And just like any market, Google only wants to ‘sell’ fresh stuff. New blogs are like fresh apples – they sit on the top pile and sell off quickly. So, the more you write a blog with good quality content, Google will recognize (index) you as a ‘good seller’ and reward you with higher rankings in the SERPs.
Exciting Times for Your Business Lies Ahead
In this era of mobile technology, there has never been a more crucial and exciting time to start blogging. A lot of virtual monetization is taking place daily and your business will be missing out on these profitable opportunities if you are not doing it already. Blogging can make a huge difference and bring your business brand to a new level that you have never seen before. It’s very easy to get started on your online business.

Hi Cathy,
You make some very excellent points here! There are more and more people buying stuff online nowadays, whether it is products or information.
Businesses that aren’t using blogging as a way to connect with their customers are losing out on a huge advantage. Not only can they build more positive customer reviews for their business, they can also reach out to potential customers.
Cathy says
Potential customer is the right word to sum it all up, Sherry.
A business should always be looking for ways to attract new clients, not only to increase sales, but also to build their online brand in the industry. Blogging is a great way to improve business marketing strategy as more people are turning to the internet for solutions. And because blogging is often interactive, readers tend to receive more information than they expect, which isn’t entirely a bad thing, I guess.

Another lovely, well written post. The minute I saw the words ‘Necker Island’ in blue at the top, you had me gripped – I thought how is she going to correlate that with the benefits of business blogging. Well, it was obvious, wasn’t it? Good old Richard Branson does it, so we should all do it.
Great stuff, Cathy!

Hello, Cathy
There are many reasons/benefits why people and businesses should blog, and you have outlined some of the best ones here 😀
Optimizing for Google, I think, is the best benefit by far. There are nearly 3 billion people online worldwide, so there’s a MASSIVE opportunity to drive visitors, help as many people as possible and earn a huge solid income at the same time.

Hi Neil,
That’s a valid point you have there. Some people argue that blogging is dead and I don’t agree to that. As long as you know how to create good quality content, you can attract users to your blog, videos and even social profiles.
Google offers some great tools to help us out when it comes to blogging and I think more business owners should take advantage of them.

Hi there,
When I get asked how to make money online, I always answer – “Start blogging if you want to make money”.
Since the invention of WordPress, blogging has gotten a totally different meaning. Not only was it great for those with experience in web design, it also opened doors to all those who had no clue on how to create a website.
Nowadays, a blog or a business website is an important software and every new entrepreneur shouldn’t think twice about it. Great blog and I agree, time couldn’t be any better to start blogging.
Cathy says
Hi Nicole, you brought up an interesting point. Many people regard online money making to something fast and easy. As most people don’t know how to identify online scams, they end up losing their money instead.
Business blogging has a different approach. First, it’s not about speed. Second, it has a lot to do with building good relationship with the readers before getting them to buy from you. A blog built on good quality content will always have something positive to offer that will make customers very satisfied.
