Besides blogging, another method for online monetization that is gaining popularity these days is YouTube. Many internet marketers are joining this trend and getting a lot of positive results from it. In this week’s tutorial, I am going to explore this marketing opportunity and show how can you make money with YouTube videos.
Four Techniques To Monetize From YouTube
#1 – Monetize from Ads
The biggest attraction that YouTube presents to business owners is the massive visitors it gets on a daily basis. As the second largest search engine, businesses know that they can use it to reach visitors globally and create a more online presence for their brand.
Placing ads on videos is one way to do this and that’s where you as a creator comes into the picture. YouTube will select appropriate ads from merchants to place them on your videos and when 1000 ads are being viewed, you’ll earn about $3 to $10 from the revenue sharing program.
Hence, the more viewers engagement you get, the more money you make. Before you can monetize from the ads, make sure that you have enabled monetization on selected videos and sign up for Google Adsense as a publisher.
#2 – Showcase Products
If you are a business that sells a particular range of products, video is a great way to promote to new customers what it is all about. Although people might not buy at the beginning, watching product videos will produce stronger impressions as compared to traditional printing such as brochures.
As a result, people are more likely to remember and check on your brand on the internet. Hence, it’s always good to create a business website (if you haven’t done so already), alongside the videos because you can then place links to lead people to your main website for more information.
Besides product features, you can also leverage YouTube to promote special deals or broadcast upcoming events to draw more audience to your business.
#3 – Teach Online
This is probably one of my favorite reasons for using YouTube; having the capability to learn visually and on-demand. If you are skillful or knowledgeable in a certain niche, consider using videos to put together a quick tutorial or a series of courses to share with your viewers what you know.
People, in general, would prefer to watch than to read a step-by-step kind of content and YouTube will definitely attract more viewers in that sense. Here are just some popular queries that are being searched on Google.
And here is the generated results on YouTube from that query.
Look at the number of videos being posted just to teach people how to bake a cake! These bloggers obviously understand the benefits of video marketing and although this is a very competitive keyphrase to target, you can easily get around it by implementing long tail keyword research.
The good news is, the more content you create around a certain topic, the longer your videos would stay in the top ranking on YouTube (and Google), despite the number of competitors. There’s always some kind of tutorial-like content that can be converted into videos, so be creative and always think outside of the box.
#4 – Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is a legitimate online monetization technique that allows you to earn sales commissions when someone purchases a product online through your recommendation. In this situation, the merchant that you are affiliated with is usually the one who would provide promotional videos to be used on your website.
A good example of this is Amazon Video Shorts. If you are running a blog with Amazon Associate Program, check out their channel on YouTube and search for informative videos that are related to your niche. If you find something that you like, simply embed the video using the code that is being provided.
If you want to be more creative, make your own videos to show the out-of-the-box experience or again, create a tutorial to demonstrate the function of a certain product. Either way, you need to place a link pointing to your affiliate website or product review page so that viewers who are interested can buy through your affiliate links.
A word of caution – DO NOT place affiliate links directly on your videos as this violates the YouTube guidelines and you’d be seen as spamming the online community. In the worst case scenario, your account would be suspended, so don’t even try.
The Main Objective of Video Marketing
The sum of all these techniques is to grow an audience around your brand, build traffic via organic/social and to convert viewers to buyers by providing valuable and engaging videos. As you gain more authority, there’s also a good chance that big companies would want to collaborate with you thus helping you to earn more from sponsorship programs.
At the end of the day, your video content is what matters most and to achieve that desired quality that appeals to millions of YouTube viewers, you need to start by understanding what your niche is all about and applying targeted keywords for better video outreach and rankings.

Marketing on YouTube seems like a fantastic idea. You mentioned how YouTube is the second largest search engine. Besides that, if many people are like me, they are accessing YouTube multiple times per day.
While you can’t place affiliate links on your videos, can you put them somewhere else on the page? Also correct me if I’m wrong, but can’t you put your own ads, say for your website, on your videos and it doesn’t cost you anything as long it is your video?
Cathy says
Hey Allan,
1) Apparently, you can use affiliate links on YouTube, only when it makes sense. Here’s a blog that mentioned this with an example.
2) Yes, you can place your ‘own ads’ on your videos. They are called annotations and it’s something like a call-to-action for viewers to check out your website.
Hope this helps.

I have always been so confused about YouTube, and how to actually create profit off from it. Very informational site, and easy read! Advertisements and marketing definitely seem essential. Do you also do YouTube, currently? I love blogging, and I never thought about YouTube being a new window of options. Great tips!
Cathy says
I don’t Arturo because I am more focus on creating blog content for now. At least, you don’t need a lot of equipment for that. But I’ll definitely consider leveraging from YouTube traffic for my online business at some point.

I have been seeing a lot about video marketing lately, this seems to be in big demand by people. I do love YouTube video website, I have learned a lot from their videos and its one of the places I go to first to learn something new.
Is it complicated to put one of their videos on a website? Is this something someone new to video marketing could do or do they need some training?
Cathy says
To answer your questions;
1) Technically, it’s easy to embed YouTube videos on a website. Here’s a short video to show you how it works.
2) If you are new to video marketing, there’s no harm embedding other people’s video on your site as long as the content is relevant to your blog topic. If you are keen to publish your own videos, I suppose some training/practice could help like choice of equipment, visual and sound quality and most importantly, the presentation of the people in the videos.
