Are you an adventure seeker and like using a video camera to record every movement? If yes, here’s something else to pump up the excitement. With the GoPro affiliate program, you can make extra money chasing the speed or flying in the sky.
Here’s how one little device can take the fun to a whole new level.
Why Is GoPro So Popular?
The innovation of video software and accessibility to the internet has made recording and publishing actions not only possible but also very popular. GoPro lightweight, durability and convenience features allow even the most amateurish user to master the art of video shooting like a professional.
It’s one of the earliest brands that make adventure recording mainstream as it offers us a bird’s eye view of things and places we’ve never seen before with contemporary screens. And the best part is, we can’t seem to get enough of it.
Who Should Join The GoPro Affiliate Program?
Anyone who is regularly doing something fun as a hobby or at work can benefit from using and sharing about GoPro so it’s not just limited to thrill-seekers. Think of it as a compact camera and video recorder combined.
Since it can be mounted on yourself, your bike or even your dog, there are literally hundreds of ways GoPro can be integrated into our life. Here are some examples;
- Scuba diving activities (yes, the device is waterproof)
- Drone photography (learn more about starting a drone blog here)
- (Less-extreme) sports activities – golf and yoga anyone?
- Teaching music instruments – mount it on a guitar or drum
And the list goes on…
How Does The Affiliation Works?
Shopping for electronics online is becoming common these days and consumers aren’t hesitant to swap their credit cards for a hundred over dollars item as long as it’s coming from a reputable source. GoPro possesses that element and that’s an added advantage.
For those who are new to action cameras or haven’t quite decided on what model is best, they need a bit more information and convincing. Unfortunately, online stores don’t usually address specific concerns on their sites except for flashing product prices and discounts. They don’t engage with an audience as an experienced person would and that’s where you come into the picture.
By sharing personal adventures and product reviews on GoPro, you are offering an inside look and candid truth about what the device can (or can’t) do. Viewers love this transparency approach as it allows them to foresee the value of their future purchases.
Take for example this review about the Hero Black 7 – the flagship camera in the GoPro range. This first-page ranking blogger shared stunning pictures he took with the model and offers tips on how to use the features in different terrains.
His XX words article is fused with a lot of enthusiasm and actually reads more like a story than a review despite the use of lingos. Towards the end of the page is where he promotes the product, as you can see with the two ‘Buy’ buttons connected to his affiliate links.
In another example, a pro-YouTuber unboxed a Hero Black 7 and walked you through its improvised features in a short video. Any type of unboxing experience is always a product review of some sort, whether the verdict is good or bad.
Since this one is favorable for the product, the affiliate links have been cleverly placed at the video description area, suggesting where you can buy the item online.
Overall, the flow for affiliate marketing pretty much works like this;
Search queries (keywords) > Blog/Videos > (content) > sales commissions (affiliate links)
Joining The GoPro Affiliate Program
Generally, there are two affiliate programs associated with GoPro. The first is the official program connected to the main online store and it is available through the CJ Affiliate network.
- Commission Structure – 5%
- Cookie Duration – 30 days
The other one is through the Amazon Associate Program as GoPro is widely sold through the giant marketplace.
- Commissions structure – 4%
- Cookie Duration – 24 hours
So, which one is better?
Obviously, the one with the higher commission is more attractive but it also depends on the preference of your customer’s shopping behavior. Those who want better product warranty might go for the official store and those who like shopping in bulk may opt for Amazon instead.
The way I see it, Amazon is the more popular choice here among reviewers because it offers ample product selection (when they buy other products, you get commissioned too) and often has better deals than the official store itself. The only downside is the short cookie period and this may work against you if the customers need more time to consider their GoPro purchase.
However, it’s not impossible to be part of two programs as proven by the blogger I showed earlier which has two buttons – one leading to the Amazon marketplace and one more to the GoPro official store. Both are free to join by the way.
Handy Tips To Know Before Applying
By now, you must be very excited to join, but before that, some housekeeping first if you’ve never established an online presence before.
1) Target a Niche
Find a group of audiences that can benefit from using GoPro AND remember, it doesn’t have to be anything extreme. Are you an experienced swimmer? Show others how they can improve their skills underwater from video recordings. Are you a stay-at-home mom raising a toddler? Mount a camera on your child (it’s legal) to better understand their mini-world from their perspective.
The key point here is to avoid going too broad as there are already many similar reviews out there. By choosing something more specific, you will be more creative in offering fresh ideas on how to integrate GoPro into our daily and rather mundane life.
2) Set Up a Blog (and a YouTube channel)
Product reviews are best presented in the form of articles and/or videos. To do so, you’ll need a publishing platform and I highly recommend using WordPress. It’s not only easy to customize and looks professional, but it also has features like the All in One SEO plugin that can help with search rankings.
With current technology, the process is easy peasy. Just purchase a custom domain and set up in a few clicks. Try it for yourself using the SiteRubix tool down below and you’ll know what I mean.
GoPro is probably one of the brands that have many video testimonials and chances are, you will be doing one yourself later on. Hence, creating a YouTube channel from the beginning isn’t a bad idea and every video should complement an article on your blog and vice versa.

3) Create Content
Before content, there are keywords and they should derive from search queries aka what others are putting into Google when they search for something. It’s like finding out what people are thinking and the good news is, there are tools to help you with those data.
- Google Search – Enter any keywords and see what phrases Google suggests based on the user queries.
- Google Trends – Find out the highs and lows of a product based on search trends. For example, we can see that GoPro usually peaks towards the end of the year. This is most likely due to Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.
- Quora – This is a global forum that discusses everything. If you go through every Q&A, you can get a lot of ideas bouncing off your head. Look under the GoPro topics to get some inspiration. Alternatively, go to GoPro Support Hub on the official site to join the community. Tips – there are many more forums out there if you care to search.
Once you’ve gathered those keywords, it’s time to process them through a keyword tool to check for popularity and competition. Ideally, you want to use key phrases that make human sense, somewhat popular and has a low level of competition. Also, the more it reflects a buying intention, the better.
Other things to keep in mind is to always target one keyword per article, write between 1,500 to 2,000+ words and always include images or videos for better engagement. Have good quality content on your blog is important for a few reasons.
First, it increases your approval rate when joining the affiliate programs (merchants want to see that you are committed at what you do) and second, it helps to drive traffic in the initial stage. More traffic equals more sales and this is particularly crucial with Amazon’s strict terms and regulations.

As a photo buff myself, I found your article very interesting indeed. I’ve looked at the GoPro platform many times in recent years but never took the time to give it more than a cursory glance as my taste in video cameras is a little different. But reading your reviews and all the opportunities to make money with GoPro, I might just take a look at both the camera and the affiliate side as well. Thanks.
Cathy says
Not just that Johnny. You can also look into other range of action-camera and see what type of features and affiliate programs (if any) they present. Glad you benefitted from this.

I’ve been wondering about GoPro cameras for my technology blog and your examples do make a lot of sense. I’m leaning towards the method of adding both links so that way you have a higher percentage chance to get a referral commission. Didn’t know there was an official one besides using Amazon affiliate links.
Cathy says
Yeah, definitely use both if you can. There are still many people who would buy from an official site, given the customer benefits.

I am a big fan of hiking and GoPro is a great gadget to record beautiful scenery along the trails. Never know there’s an official GoPro affiliate program but since I am already an Amazon associate, guess I’ll start from there first. May need to start organizing my video files for easy content sharing. Thanks for the interesting idea.

I never would have thought about being a GoPro Affiliate until now. Gotta make a note to check this out.
I have a site centered around the RV niche and it occurs to me that even RVers could do a lot with a GoPro. They are small, compact little camera dynamos. Practically go anywhere. Many RVers like to hike when they are camping and many have drones they could attach them to as well.
Not only am I going to check this out, but it’s also a great idea for an upcoming post. You just never know where great ideas are going to come from. Many thanks,

Always great to bounce ideas, Wayne!

Another excellent review and recommendation. I’m already a user of GoPro and absolutely love the camera. It would be awesome if I actually promote it while sharing pictures taken with my GoPro. Perhaps starting a YouTube channel for that would be a good way to start. Good idea to try the official store first for the higher commission before hitting on Amazon.

GoPro is indeed wonderful to make anyone who means business in the photography and videography world. I love its simplicity and uniqueness. So happens, my son is very much into observing the behavior of dogs and their various breed. I would love him to try the GoPro affiliate program and see if where his passion takes him. Great idea.

Cathy, I am so glad that I came across your website. I absolutely love my Go Pro. Yet, I wasn’t sure if they had an affiliate program or not. I liked the recommendation of having links to both the official Go Pro site and Amazon.
Personally, I much prefer to see the awesome video clips along with the story rather than a review that restates the whatever that is one the manufacturer’s website. That would be so boring.
Do you have any idea if GoPro is one of those types of companies that will not consider a new website? Or do they only approve applications for people that have established websites with lots of traffic?
Cathy says
Hi Sondra. On the affiliate page, it didn’t state whether a high traffic page is required or not. However, for a new website, I would still suggest getting some good content up to show that you know something about GoPro. It might increase your chances of being accepted if you show interest. Hope this helps.
