Buying things online is great for a few reasons. First, it is convenient and second, you get to do some savings. This is made possible with the intricate system of coupons and cashback and that’s what brought me to writing this Honey Shopping app review.
This thing caught my attention when I discovered that it could make you some extra money too. Curious to know how that works? Read on.
What is Honey App
Honey is an application that detects savings whenever you browse an online outlet and put something into the checkout cart. It aggregates all types of deals, scoured from the internet and applies what works so you get to see the price difference before making any purchase.
Founded in 2012, it is currently one of the highest-rated shopping apps with over 10 million users. Every now and then, you’d find different merchants partnering to offer deals for online customers. While most are coming from physical retail, there’s also a growing number of digital services joining the program.
Here are just some outlets you may already be familiar with;
Honey works through the extension feature on common web browsers like Chrome, Safari, Opera, and Firefox.
After installation, the icon will appear on the upper right corner of the browser and ready for access. The app is connected to a user account with a dashboard displaying the latest deals and automatically works when you are on a retailer’s checkout page.
User Tips – Saving Money
Coupons are one of those things that get people excited about shopping online, but they can be challenging to find and tend to expire quickly. With the app, you can skip the researching part and let Honey do its job with just a click of a button.
There are a few ways to search for coupons here. Firstly, find out if a participating merchant is offering any codes or simply watch the live feed on the dashboard for brands that may interest you.
On the merchant outlet, shop and add items to the cart like usual. Upon checkout, click on the Honey app and a notification will pop up whenever coupons are available for that particular site.
When you click on ‘Apply Coupons’, Honey will run all the codes and use what works. Within seconds, you’ll be able to see just how much savings are being made.
For example, with this particular item, I was able to save $28 dollars for the purchase which I think is a pretty good bargain.
The other money-saving feature is called ‘Drop List’ and what it does is that it will watch your favorite items over a time period and notify whenever the item’s price drops below the amount you wanted. On the product page that allows this feature, you will see a small ‘h+’ icon hovering over the product image.
Click on that and you can set how you want the item to be watched. You can choose the duration (within 30, 60, 90 or 120 days) and the point of discount for purchase (from 5% all the way to 95% off). After that, just add the item to the drop list and you’ll be prompted via email should there be any changes.
You can add as many items as you want into the list and will be reminded whenever something is about to expire. It’s a pretty neat feature for major shopping sales and if you’ve been eyeing on a pricey product for a while.
User Tips – Get Free Money
In the event when coupon codes don’t apply, Honey Gold may be up for grabs. These are basically cash backs points made by purchasing from participating outlets and the app will let you know how much points you’ll likely earn.
Stores offering the Gold points will have a Gold coin icon next to their brands and on the checkout page, you just need to click the app to activate the cashback system. Once you accumulate 1000 Gold, you can redeem a $10 gift card from several outlets such as Amazon, Walmart and Macy’s.
Alternatively, you can also refer new users to the app – each referral earns you 500 Gold points. When two new members make their first qualifying purchases, you get a $10 gift card too. Your referral link can be shared through social media and email but the most efficient way is through blogging because it goes beyond the people whom you know.
Many shoppers go online every day to search for coupons and cashback information so someone is going to benefit from using the Honey app for sure. Show them how it works – just like what I did – and place the referral link (here’s mine) somewhere strategic on the text and let them know the benefits of joining.
The more you elaborate, share and update the article, the more referrals you’ll make. And here’s some extra tip – if you have no use for those cards, you can sell them for profit and yes, it’s totally legit. That way, you’ll be making fresh cash and use it towards something more purposeful. Wouldn’t that be great?!
Alright, let’s wrap up the important points here. We really like the Honey app for the following reasons;
- It’s easy and FREE to use. Just install and it’s good to go
- It’s connected to most major outlets where we all love to shop, especially on Amazon.
- Honey rewards you 50 Gold points each for simply creating an account and going through the demo.
- You can get some really sweet bargain and the money-saving part is real!
- More gift cards equal to more free money. Who doesn’t want that?
- You can also get more cash back from credit cards that are recommended by the shopping app.
- If you have your own coupon code, you can use that and it will be added into the database to benefit other shoppers as well.
Despite that, there are some drawbacks to be aware of;
- Some coupon codes don’t work when you thought they would, so instead of savings, you might just get Gold Points.
- Honey Gold is only active for shoppers from the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. Even so, the points may not be applied for all types of purchases.
- Droplist is only available for US members and it’s limited to certain stores. You need to have patience monitoring the list and there’s no guarantee the prices will change according to your goals.
- Despite what seems like a robust shopping tool, it doesn’t have a mobile app which means, it can only be functional on a desktop computer.
Anyways, the next time you’re shopping online, it’s worth testing out the tool first and see how much you can gain. If it doesn’t meet your expectations, try Rakuten Ebates, Swagbucks or TopCashBack instead. All these reward programs let you save and earn extra money as well.
With that, I hope you’ve found something valuable from my Honey Shopping app review. Let me know what your experience is like with this or even with other programs. For more tips and ideas on how to make money online, please check out my recommended training platform here.
