Subscription boxes are the trend today. I went to a friend’s birthday yesterday and was I surprised, a lot of his gifts are actually coming from subscription boxes which got me quite intrigued. The international shipping rates might be a problem, they can be really expensive when shipping overseas.
I remember paying $50 as shipping fee for a customized tumbler. I could only fathom the price if we order heavier things as that would be an extra cost for us to bear too. Would you think it’s worth going after if my business focus has a majority of international web visitors compared to locals?

Even if you have a wide base of international visitors, it could be different when it comes to ordering physical products on a recurrent basis. I think most people know how to do the math and paying for expensive shipping isn’t cost effective. I think when it comes to running a successful subscription based business, you need to have more local visitors than going international.

Today, I accidentally received a monthly subscription box that was suppose to go to the neighbor and it got me thinking about this type of products. I never realized there were so many varieties.

The transaction fee sounds heavy so that’s a bit discouraging. Another thing to think about is also how I can turn my products effectively into subscription mode. Cratejoy has an easy to use platform, cool team and responsive staff. Do wish they had bulk changes for customer profiles like bulk cancel or bulk re-bill date change. On the above, they do charge a recurring 10% fee that you acquire through their marketplace. I have margin to give them for getting me customers, so I think it’s okay. But the monthly price seem to be on the high side – if it could be brought down a little, then it would be perfect.

It depends Chris. If you are already a small business owner with interesting retails, then it’s best to enter the marketplace as a seller. If you aren’t, the least costly method is to become an affiliate, test out different boxes and write reviews about the products. This can be equally as profitable because there’s no inventory to manage and the commission is recurring, granted you know how to acquire constant online traffic to your links.
