If you have always thought about shedding that extra pounds, but never got into doing it, here’s another solution. Find programs that will reward you for the effort. Seriously, some compensate in the form of purpose, points and also cash. Today’s article is all about showing you how to get paid for losing weight AND also an extra tip on making money online.
Want to know what they are? Read on.
1 – Charity Miles
Feels like exercising for a good cause? Then Charity Miles is a good program to start with. It’s a free app that is available on Android and iOS and doesn’t require any credit card information. Basically, it partners with corporate sponsors to donate to over 40 charitable organizations whenever users complete their workout sessions.
After downloading the app, users can select a charity that they want to support as well as the type of workout that they like. Donation range between 10 to 25 cents per mile, depending on whether it is walking, running or biking. The app generally tracks and records the mileage and for more peer support, you may join nearby teams to boost your performance.
2 – Walgreens Balance Reward
Walgreens has been around for a very long time and they sell a lot of household and personal products. Now, they even have a shopping point system to help you save money on future purchases and one of the ways to earn these points is to do healthy behavior tracking through their app.
Activities like sleeping to exercise to quitting tobacco can earn you anything between 20 to 250 points. The goal here is to earn up to the highest accumulation of 40,000 points which is equivalent to a $50 shopping coupon. Other things like shopping and getting drug prescription can also add to the point system so if you are a regular customer at Walgreens, you can sign up for a free membership in-store or through the app.
The only downside is that there are limitations to the point earnings. For example, one can only earn up to 1000 points per month, so no matter how much you are committed to the workout, the reward can be very little at the end of the day.
3 – Stepbet
For something more challenging, you might want to look into betting programs like Stepbet which reward users based on the amount of steps that can be accomplished within a game session.
The buy-in for each game is $40 and weekly goals must be achieved over a 6 week period. These goals are calculated according to your activity level and failing to do so will put you at risk of elimination and losing the bet. The total pot then gets split among the winners, after Stepbet takes a 15% cut. In average, most players who succeed in their goals, make about $5 to $10 extra on top of their bets.
Then, there’s also the membership games that allow users to participate up to 3 games at a time. The fee is $50 per year and the winner’s portion is 100% of the total pot. That means the final winnings are relatively higher than the case of single games.
To get started, you need to have either one of these fitness trackers – FitBit, Apple Health, Samsung Health, Garmin or Google Fit – that can be connected to the Stepbet app. Your activities will be synced and calculated between these two programs to determine your achievement at the end of the game.
In a way, this program is more motivating and clearly feels more rewarding as compared to point system earning.
4 – DietBet
However, if money is your biggest incentive, then bigger bets are likely to motivate you to make real weight loss changes. Enter Dietbet, a program that rewards you for achieving a targeted weight over a period of time. Weight losses are verified using two-photo validation process, both of which must be submitted according to date lines and specifications.
There are two games to choose from, the Kickstarter where players bet on themselves to lose 4% over the course of 4 weeks and the Transformer where the bet is to lose 10% over the course of 6 months. The bet for Kickstart is one time off while for Transformer, you’ll be putting in money every month until the game ends.
Each game has different bet amounts and could range anywhere between $10 to $999. Users can play in up to 3 Kickstarters and 3 Transformer weight loss challenges at a time. A PayPal account will be required for cash out if you win.
What’s great about this program is that it is open internationally, you are free to choose whatever exercise or diet method (as long as it is safe), there’s no need for a fitness tracker and most importantly, you could earn up to twice the amount that you put in.
5 – HealthyWage
And lastly, we have Healthywage. Just like Dietbet, there’s real cash to be won, except that the program is more flexible. For individuals, if you would like to know how much you can win, there’s the HealthyWager online calculator that will do the estimation based on your gender, targeted body weight and the amount of time and money that you are willing to put in.
Then there’s the Team Challenge, where you form a team of 5, pays $25 per month for 3 months, to be in the running for cash prizes. The grand prize is $10,000, second place is $5,000 and third place is $3,000. But what differentiates this program from the others is that it comes with an affiliate program.
That means, you could get commissions for promoting their products online. When someone sign up for the HealthyWager or Team Challenge program, you’ll generate $50 and $30 respectively per referral. This is a great monetization opportunity for past participants who have had success, diet review sites or any fitness enthusiast. Their top-earning affiliate has earned over $35,000 in commissions to date.
If you are already familiar with affiliate marketing work, then head over to the ShareASale network to sign up. If you don’t know what this is, but is interested in joining, the first step is to create a fitness related blog with WordPress. Take some time to research what this niche and audience are all about. And then, write engaging articles and product reviews that are relevant in order to build consistent traffic to your site.
As weight problems continue to rise in the US and globally, more people are turning to the internet to search for solutions. That means, programs like HealthyWage could be a solution for those who need a strong motivating factor. If they can find your reviews online and are interested in signing up, then you could potentially be making several hundred dollars (or more) in commissions per month.
Now, you aren’t only getting paid for losing weight, but you are also creating an online income stream as a result of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. What could be better than that, right? Which Reward Fancy You The Most?
Well, I hope these five programs have got you excited about all the rewards that could come with exercising. To sum it up, if you are someone who likes to take things slow and easy, the first two are likely the suitable options.
But if cash incentives are more attractive, then consider the last three, especially Healthywage, to see how much weight you can actually shed AND how much cash you could possibly make in return.
Questions – Did I miss out other programs that are not in the list? Or do you have anything else to add to this article? We would love to hear your comments below.

Hi Cathy, I really liked the reading!
Those companies use excellent marketing strategies. They help people to lose weight while earning money and become more popular at the same time. Someone I know from work needs to lose weight and also needs to make some money so I’ll definitely share this article with her.
I am sure she will find it very interesting. I do love the StepBet program because I love walking. I do have a question though. Are these programs only for losing weight? Can someone who wants to get fit, participate in these programs? If so which of them would suggest?
Cathy says
Hi Daniella, Charity Miles and StepBet are more like exercise programs so I think they are good for maintaining fitness too 🙂

What an amazing concept – to get paid for getting healthy instead of the usual way around. I searched the availability of these programs in Europe (I live in England) and discovered that Step Bet and Diet Bet look like they will work here, although I am not 100% sure about the latter, which needs referees from the organization. The same seems to be true for Healthywage.
Do you happen to know the geographical limitations of those three? Charity Miles won’t allow me to put in a European Phone number and unfortunately Walgreens does not have any locations here.
I think you have done a real service here, identifying these means of getting paid to get healthy. Sounds like a New Year’s resolution can be made here that has some punch!

Hi Marc. Please refer to my comment reply below for the answer to your question. Thanks.

Hey Cathy,
I consider myself a fitness freak and I’m sure I could make a couple of extra dollars by using the apps you’ve mentioned. Do Charity Miles, Walgreens Balance Reward, Stepbet, DietBet and HealthyWage work in all countries around the globe or is it just in the US? Is it possible to use all these apps at the same time?
Thanks in advance.
Cathy says
I believe Charity Miles, Stepbet, Dietbet and Healthy Wage works internationally. Walgreens will only work for US residents because it’s tied to physical stores. I am sure you can combine one or two apps together as long as there’s no conflict of terms and regulations. Doing all of them sounds like an overkill though 🙂

Well, this is a really excellent idea, and I’m impressed by the companies that have jumped on the bandwagon here and offered money for weight loss – a win/win really!
I’m wondering how much money can be earned overall with this sort of thing though? I mean, weight loss can’t go on forever with an individual, so what’s the ball park average for losing weight?
Cathy says
Lol! I guess it varies according to different individuals. After achieving a weight goal, one can actually work on maintaining it. Maintaining a good body weight – that can be a niche on itself too. The market drive might not be as popular as the weight loss one, but it’s still important nevertheless.

If only knew I could get paid to lose weight 12 months ago, I could have used that money to pay for my gym membership. I love your handpick recommendation mention in your article. I’m very interested in seeing if some of these program apps really can earn some extra cash for losing weight. Thank you

Hi Cathy,
Never did it crossed my mind that there were sites where you can bet and actually win and get some money by losing weight. I am not sure how accurate and how trustworthy that is, but it seems to work from your review.
Currently, I am juggling the weight loss path. Have lost close to 40 pounds in the past 9 months, and I am on my way to lose another 40. So I’m definitely keen to try one of these programs and to see if I can make some good pocket money along the way. Thanks for sharing the tips.
