Running an online business from home is a great way a woman can contribute to her family income. You don’t need a lot of money to set things up and in most cases, you don’t even need to have your own products.
In this week’s niche tips, I’ll share 6 types of affiliate programs for stay at home moms that you can kick start immediately.
Affiliate Programs for Stay at Home Moms
#1 Pregnancy Niche
For as long as people wish to have children, this is an evergreen niche. A pregnancy term can be divided into 3 phases – conception, pregnancy, and post-pregnancy care. So there’s a wide array of products that couples will need over the span of at least 2 years to ensure that their pregnancy is successful.
Your experience as a mother will be very useful here, but before you identify the type of products to recommend, you have to find out what are the situations or dilemmas that couples are facing. A good technique for this is to do market research and in the context of affiliate marketing, you are looking specifically at keyword research.
Let’s turn on Jaaxy, my favorite keyword research tool to dig more into this niche.
The phrase “how to check ovulation at home” gets about 32 searches per month (look at the AVG column) while the competing websites are extremely low (QSR value is only 4). So this is a good topic that you can rank for while promoting a product.
Pregnancy Store, a reputable merchant offers some good quality fertility products (see image above) and their affiliate commission rate is 15%. They don’t seem to partner with any affiliate network so you’ll need to contact them personally for your application.
#2 Children Education Niche
Every mother wants the best for their children’s education and with today’s technology, parents are quite willing to spend on products that can help their children learn in a better environment. More so with special needs children such as those with dyslexia, autism and ADD.
Using the same keyword research technique, we found that the term “visual learning aids for autistic children” has no competition at all. Statistics have shown that 1 in 50 children has some form of autism so obviously, there’s a need to introduce a good product to help these kids.
Zane Education is a membership site that provides learning tools for special children through their patented visual learning solution called The Missing Piece ©. The affiliate program is private and their sales commission is 15%.
#3 Sewing Niche
I grew up watching my grandmother sew floor mats, pillowcases, blankets, and clothes for a living so I know you need a lot of tools to make these beautiful pieces from home. In the old days, they would draw designs on tracing paper and if the papers go missing, you’ll have to recall as much as you can from your memories.
These days, people design sewing patterns and sell them in prints or digital downloads so it’s a lot more convenient for the users. What kind of queries you can think of when it comes to this topic idea? Here’s a good keyphrase.
“Sewing patterns for flower girl dresses” has about 96 searches per month with only 23 competing websites. So that’s a pretty good keyword choice. For promoting sewing tools, you can consider Joann’s affiliate program that offers up to 4% in sales commission.
Although this may seem like a small percentage, bear in mind that this is an online fabric and craft store so customers are very likely to buy several items upon checkout which means you can also earn from other additional products as well. Just look at the variety of stuff they have on their site!
#4 Cooking Niche
This is another all-time favorite and evergreen niche. Every mother I know is good at making something in the kitchen and even if they don’t, they would look it up on the internet to learn. That’s why making money on a food blog is so popular these days because you can promote tools, online courses, and books for your readers.
I wonder if anyone is searching for something really basic like the “best knife for cutting meat”.
According to Jaaxy, there are more than 100 searches per month and only 18 competing websites ranking for this term. What an awesome title to use for your blog post! And with the help of Google search, I found a great website called Food52 that offers a 6% affiliate commission on various products such as kitchen appliances, cookbooks, and even coffee. It is a very professional looking site and you can apply for the program through Commission Junction.
#5 Home Organizing Niche
Like to keep your home clean and proper? This might be a great niche to get involved with. Every mother struggles with organizing their house, especially with kids around so offering tips and techniques through a blog can really help a lot of people.
Needless to say, the first keyphrase that comes into my mind is “ways to organize kid’s rooms”. 144 searches per month and only 24 competition for this term. Another awesome title for a blog!
As for affiliate products, you can sign up with The Container Store that offers 6% in sales commission. They have a wide range of storage products that can certainly give more quality space to your reader’s home. The affiliate program is available through Rakuten Linkshare.
Which Niche Are You Interested In, Mom?
Of course, there are more niches that you can check out besides these ones. Start with something that you like to do at home as a mother, search for the market demand and create content to surround that niche idea.
Once you get some traffic to your blog, you can then apply for related affiliate programs and start earning the commissions. Keep doing this for a year or two and you’ll certainly transform into a full-time businesswoman, working from home.
Isn’t that a wonderful career to have while watching your kids grow up? If you like to know how to get started as an affiliate marketer, visit my recommended training platform to learn more.

Hi Cathy,
Thanks for bringing the focus down to 6 niches and why they would be good for stay at home moms (my ultimate dream!). There are so many possible niches that I can sometimes get lost in all of the possibilities. I have a question, though.
For the visual learning aid example, only 24 people look for that search term a month. How many people can I expect to visit my website if I targeted that keyword? Can I promote more than one product? Thanks.
Cathy says
Good questions Alyssa,
1) Out of 24 searches per month for that term, you can expect about 5 visitors (see the traffic column) if it ranks on the first page of Google. In reality, there could be more because for each article that you publish, there are a ton of keywords that will help your page rank. That’s why you always need to write good quality content consistently.
2) You can certainly promote more than one product, but focus on a few within your niche that give you the best user experience. Ultimately, those are the products that you want to recommend to your readers too.
Hope this explanation helps.

Great ideas here!
I think it is wonderful that you are trying to help women achieve their goal of staying home to raise their own children. As a full time working mother of a 2 year old and one on the way, this is certainly a goal of mine! It is not easy when two incomes are necessary, but the cost of childcare is so high as well as most mothers’ desire to spend more time with their children.
Cathy says
Welcome Gina,
Helping other women especially mothers to become financially independent is one of the reasons why I started this blog. So many women out there are helpless when it comes to business planning because they think that they need a business degree or they need to rent a shop.
Both of these methods are not feasible as they require a big chunk of money and to be physically away from your children. By starting an online business, you can keep the cost of investment low and still work from home. This is an achievable goal for any mothers who set their hearts and minds into it.

These are all great niches for stay at home moms because they will already have some experience and knowledge. Although you can certainly go into a niche that’s new to you, it will be more difficult because of two learning curves: the niche itself and Internet marketing. It’s best to pick a niche you’re more familiar with for your very first website. I’m not a stay-at-home mom, but I’ve searched for information in most of the niches you mentioned (organization, cooking, and pregnancy). Great post, Cathy. 🙂
Cathy says
Good point you have there Martina. For a beginner, online marketing certainly presents some learning curve and although there are plenty of free resources out there, getting professional training and applying the techniques on your niche is better to help build your understanding.

I like your ideas here and they have inspired some ideas of my own. It can be hard trying to start an online business, especially trying to come up with a niche. I think all of the ones you talk about would be great as they all have high interest from a lot of people. Thanks for the great ideas.
